Meteorite
A meteorite dial uses material with an internal pattern, not a generic criss-cross engraving.
The interest of a meteorite dial starts inside the material. In the metallic meteorites used for these watches, the intersecting structure is not a decorative drawing added by the dial designer. Cutting and treating a slice reveals it.
Material, not just motif
Rolex identifies its metallic meteorite as primarily iron and nickel, and describes cutting it into thin sections before chemical treatment reveals the interwoven structure. That distinction matters when reading a specification. “Meteorite pattern” describes a look; a documented meteorite dial identifies a material. Neither a silver colour nor an irregular grid proves origin. Questions about provenance belong with the actual maker and specimen, not with a screenshot of a similar texture.
Letting the pattern breathe
As a design exercise, start with simple baton or dot markers and a short signature. The bright and dark strips already create detail behind the hands, so inspect readability at several angles before adding a busy track. A contrasting hand colour can be more useful than a perfectly matching metal palette.
Compare the same construction with mother-of-pearl: both refer to natural materials, but one suggests angular metallic structure while the other suggests layered, shifting lustre.
In the atelier
The Meteorite choice generates an irregular visual pattern and simulated metallic response. It is not a scan of a specific meteorite, a geological model or evidence of extraterrestrial material. Colour choices tint the study freely; they do not promise that a matching physical specimen or finishing process exists. Repeated preview patterns also should not be interpreted as the natural uniqueness of real slices.
